Press Felt Caliper
|
In combination with a permeability test and/or water content measurement the caliper becomes an important felt parameter. A felt can be thin due to wear (high permeability) or because it is compacted (low permeability). When it is relatively thick, it can be contaminated (low permeability) or not compacted at all (high permeability).
High speed machines with nip dewatering need compacted press felts. To reduce the break-in time the felt must compact as quickly as possible and then remain constant as long as possible - the red line in this chart. Only with the Feltest Caliper Profiler it is possible to accurately measure the felt caliper on the running machine, helping the paper maker and felt supplier to optimize press felt performance. |
