Feltest FiberScan™
In the past it was necessary to use a radio-active instrument to investigate the dewatering process on a forming fabric. Especially the radio-active nature of this gamma gauge had many down sides, like numerous regulations and costs and ofcourse operator safety. Now, with the completely new FiberScan™ of the 2nd generation, a drainage analysis has become much easier and safer!
The Feltest FiberScan™ uses a innovative and patented microwave sensor, exclusively designed for the demanding conditions in the paper industry. The operating range is extremely wide, ranging from massive board up to tissue papers and everyting in between! As the microwave sensor only measures water, the readings are not influenced by the forming fabric or fillers like TiO2.
In contrast to a gamma gauge, the readings of the FiberScan™ are not affected by metal parts close by. Combined with the compact measuring head it is now possible to measure at more positions on top and gap formers, helping you to understand the drainage process even better. The Feltest FiberScan™ can measure up to 1024 values per second, which opens up completely new ways to investigate pulsations or paper mass variations! With the OptiPulse™ software one can perform a FFT-analysis on the recorded data, to focus on machine related problems like head box pulsations or foil turbulences.

The FiberScan™ is now available in two versions: the single-unit FiberScanONE™ and the already well-known two-unit version FiberScanTWO™. Both versions share the patented sensor technology, the difference is in the handling and the user interaction.

Due to the low weight and compact dimensions of the FiberScanTWO™ 's separate sensor handle, this version is very suitable for difficult to reach measuring positions. The new control unit of the FiberScanONE™ features more feedback for the operator, so that he or she can immediately judge the quality of the measurement. Also the possibilty to make full-width profiles (if the paper machine offers a transverse bridge) is unique for the FiberScanONE™.
