Press Felt Speed and Length

For all individual clothing positions the running speed must be set very accurately. If there are unknown speed differences the number of paper breaks can multiply, completey ruining the Paper Machine's runnability. Speed differences can also lead to paper quality issues.

In the paper machine's Drive Control System (DCS) the surface speed is not measured but only calculated. The motor revolutions are multiplied with the assumed roll diameter plus an estimated felt caliper.

If the DCS input (roll diameter and fabric caliper) is not accurate, for example due to a human error during input), the actual speed of the felt will be different from what is shown in the control room.

Feltest Products for accurate speed and length measurements

Feltest offers the following products to accurately measure the surface speed of fabrics and rolls in the press section:

Feltest RealSpeed

The RealSpeed is an accurate tachometer, specially designed for use in the Paper Industry. It measures rolls, wires, felts and dryers.

Feltest RealSpeed / RealLength

The RealSpeed/RealLength has an additional optical sensor to detect the guiding line on the felt. In this way it accurately measures the felt length under running conditions.

Ideal for vibration prone press sections!
