Forming Fabric Speed and Length under running conditions

The exact speed of forming fabrics is essential information for any paper maker .

  • The jet / wire ratio affects many paper properties "dragging" or "rushing" the fibers is partially determined by the fabric speed.twin wire paper machine

  • On twin wire machines both the top and bottom wire must run at identical speeds if not, the sheet gets 'rubbed', destroying the sheet surface and other properties.

In the paper machine's Drive Control System (DCS) the surface speed is not measured but only calculated. The motor revolutions are multiplied with the assumed roll diameter plus an estimated fabric caliper.

If the DCS input (roll diameter and fabric caliper) is not accurate, the speed setting will not be accurate either.

Feltest Products for accurate speed and length measurements

Feltest offers the following products to accurately measure the surface speed of fabrics and rolls in the forming section:

Feltest RealSpeed

The RealSpeed is an accurate tachometer, specially designed for use in the Paper Industry. It measures rolls, wires, felts and dryers.

Feltest RealSpeed/RealLength

Feltest RealSpeed/RealLengthThe RealSpeed/RealLength has an additional optical sensor to detect the guiding line on the fabric. In this way it accurately measures the fabric length - under running conditions! Ideal for older machines with limited strectching possibilties.
