As paper making is a continuous process, it is sometimes necessary to "freeze" the picture to find out what is happening at high speed.
For example, small air bubbles can cause very small interruptions while trimming the sheet on the forming fabric. During this interruption, the sheet is not seperated from the trim which can give many problems when lifting the sheet from the forming fabric into the press section.
Checking the activity or turbulence on the forming fabric is another well-known application for stroboscopes in the wet-section of the Paper Machine. The demand for turbulance varies per machine and paper grade and therefore a Stroboscope is a tool that cannot be missed!
The remaining life potential of a forming fabric is not only determined by the fabrics caliper or thickness. Only a visual inspection can tell if the fabric is wearing where it is supposed to and how strong the individual yarns are worn.
