The tension in wires / forming fabrics is a critical parameter in the paper production process. Just think of what is all affected by fabric tension:

Uneven tension ► uneven dewatering ► sheet profile problems
Higher tension on 1 side ► guiding problems ► fabric wear by continuous counter steering;
CMD tension variations ► waviness in the fabric ►sheet profile problems;
Too low tension ► slipping of the drive rolls ► fabric wear and runnability problems!
Too high tension ► extra load on the guiding roll bearings ► breakdown?!
