The forming section has a big influence on both the Paper Machine's efficiency and the quality of the paper and board. Monitoring and analysing the drainage process shows the effects of the:

dewatering elements;
chemical dosage changes; and
machine settings like for example vacuum levels

FiberScan™ microwave technology

Previously the portable Gamma Backscatter Sensor by NDC Systems Inc. was the most common tool to analyse the drainage in the forming section. Since 2007 the Feltest FiberScan was introduced, using harmless microwave technology to measure the amount of water on top of the forming fabric.

The FiberScan is the world market leader in non-radioactive drainage analysis equipment.
